Ancient Ostia and Ostia Lido
With this full day itinerary we are going to discover a very ancient city, the first colony that Rome built at the Tiber river’s mouth in order to be its own harbour and which was abandoned at the end of Late Antiquity. Walking on the the ancient streets we are going to understand in depth every aspect of the life of an ancient Roman: how he used to travel, how he took baths in the thermae, how he was going to theatre, how he worked, what he used to eat… At the end of this visit we’ll go to the Reinassance little hamlet of Ostia, in order to see the castle built by will of Pope Julius II and to enjoy a light meal with typical local products. Then we’ll move to Ostia Lido, where we’ll retrace part of the most recent Italian history, connected to the reclamation of the Roman countryside. After enjoying some new Baroque and rationalist style buildings, we’ll finish our walk on the seafront.
