A walk from Piazza del Popolo to the Quirinal hill
As the ancient travellers, we’ll get into the city from the Flaminia door, monumentalized by Bernini during Queen Mary Christine of Sweden’s visit. The square is named after the church of St. Mary of the People, where there are many extraordinary art works, among which two paintings by Caravaggio and a chapel designed by Raffaello and Bernini.
From here we’ll walk along the left arm of the Trident, formed by via di Ripetta, via del Corso and via del Babuino, and we’ll get to piazza di Spagna in order to enjoy the Barcaccia Fountain and the famous staircase leading up to the church of Trinità dei Monti.
The next stop is the Trevi Fountain, monumental arrival point of an ancient Roman aqueduct. From here we’ll climb the highest hill in Rome, the Quirinal Hill: here stands the largest building in the city, built as the summer residence of the Popes, then becomen a royal palace with the Savoia family and today official residence of the President of the Italian Republic.
