Vatican Museums, Sixtine Chapel and St. Peter’s basilica
Crossing the majestic complex of the Vatican Museums we’ll walk through the rooms and the corridors of the palaces which were built as a residence for the different Popes and today are a chest of art treasures. Here take turns masterpieces of classical sculpture as the Laocoon, the Apoxyomenos and the Torso of the Belvedere, paintings by Raffaello, Caravaggio, Domenichino and many others.
After we cross the rooms of Julius II’s apartment decorated by Raphael and the Borgia apartment where there are masterpieces by Van Gogh, Guttuso, Matisse and tens of other contemporary artists, we finally come to the Sixtine Chapel, Michelangelo’s masterpiece and a real summa of all Reinassance art.
From here we’ll enter the largest basilica in the world, built in order to pay homage to the burial place of the Apostle Peter and destination of the pilgrimage of millions of people, arriving here because of their faith and in order to enjoy the art masterpieces, like Michelangelo’s Pietà, the bronze canopy by Bernini and the monumental tomb for the Stuart family built by Canova.
